I have not posted here in a while. They say that you shouldn’t write about something unless you feel it. It’s been hard politically because there isn’t much about the current political atmosphere that hasn’t already been said. When I started this blog, I told myself I would not be overly negative of Democrats because I hated when they did it to Bush. I don’t want to harp on every little thing. Let’s face it, the Dems are in big trouble, no use beating a dead horse.

Now with the Democrats losing support for healthcare legislation faster than greased lightning, the debate is being steered away form the true issue via the red herring of racism. Observe this article a friend of mine sent me today with my comments in red:

No, not towards Obama, towards the policy. Besides, the stacked audiences of NH and MT were friendly towards Obama. The hostile ones were against mainly white state representatives.

Experts who track hate groups across the U.S. are growing increasingly concerned over violent rhetoric targeted at President Obama, especially as the debate over health care intensifies and a pattern ofthreats emerges. Who are the “experts” cited? What pattern of threat? Later in this article the Secret Service source states there hasn’t been a threat matrix increase.

The Secret Service is investigating a Maryland man who held a sign reading “Death to Obama” and “Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids” outside a town hall meeting this week. And in New Hampshire, another man stood across the street from a Presidential town hall with his gun on full display. The first guy sounds like a moron and SHOULD be investigated. The guy with the gun is William Kostnic, a Ron Paul supporter, who was legally wearing his gun on the side of his pants to remind people of the first amendment. This sentence tries to mislead the reader into thinking he was brandishing his weapon.

Los Angeles police officers apprehended a man Thursday after a standoff with him inside a red Volkswagen Bug car in Westwood, CA the latest disturbing case even though officials said the man had mental problems. What does this have to do with anything? Looks like it was included to justify mentioning a stand-off in the title.

“I don’t think these are simply people who are mentally ill or off their rocker,” Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center (a known left-wing organization), told ABC News of those behind the threats. “In a very real sense they represent a genuine reaction, a genuine backlash against Obama.” No, it’s against his shit policies. The Dem’s strategy is to spin the disdain towards socialized medicine away and turn it into racism; typical left-wing BS… if you can’t win an argument, claim racism.

Experts say a sharp growth in so-called militia groups that helped spawn a wave of domestic terrorism in the 1990s and are now using YouTube, rock music and the Internet to recruit members and spread hate and fear – shouldn’t be ignored. This is such bullshit. Where was the reporting about Terrorists doing this? What examples do the authors use? This is a good example of trying to spin the debate away from a failing healthcare plan by mis-associating an issue from 15 years ago. Also, it says “Experts”, whenever a writer does that and fails to source who the experts are, it’s probably bullshit.

“It’s certainly a scary time,” said former FBI agent Brad Garrett, now an ABC News consultant. Garrett said the Secret Service “cannot afford to pass on anyone,” and he believes “they really do fear that something could happen to [Obama].” Notice the brackets. Call me crazy but I think the Secret Service is paid specifically to “fear something could happen” to ANY president.

Garrett said statements like one recently made by controversial radio host Rush Limbaugh comparing a logo for the White House plan to a Nazi symbol “legitimizes people who are on the edge to go do something or say something.” Why is he a “controversial” radio host? Are left winger radio hosts controversial? The writer is purposely leading the reader with the word “controversial.”

“And if you go and take a look at this, you will find that the Obama health care logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo,” Limbaugh said. This was after Pelosi said people were showing up to rallies with “Nazi signs”, what she failed to mention was the signs had a circle and a line through it meaning NO Nazis. Nazi, of course, derives from the German Nationalsozialisten, meaning National Socialists.

Later, someone painted a swastika outside the office of Congressman David Scott of Georgia, one of Obama’s supporters. David Scott received heat for rudely arguing with a doctor at a town hall meeting and insinuating that people who didn’t agree with Obama’s plan was because they were racists. While an unfortunate incident indeed, this is a brazen example of strategic association, leading the reader to falsely believe that the incidents had something to do with each other, when there is no proof whatsoever. Notice the use of the word “later”.

Secret Service Security Around Obama

While officials told ABC News that the President’s daily threat matrix has yet to reflect a sharp increase in threats, White House officials privately admit deep concern and have told the Secret Service to keep security tight, even if Obama objects. The threat matrix hasn’t reflected an increase because there isn’t one.

“I think the president has, in effect, triggered fears amongst fairly large numbers of white people in this country that they are somehow losing their country, that the battle is lost,” Potok told ABC News. “The nation that their Christian white forefathers created has somehow been taken from them.” Wow! What is this fool Potok talking about? The problem is clearly that many people do not want nationalized healthcare and are understandably weary after the stimulus debacle and encroaching government.

The Grinder — Recent jobs reports may be gloomy to some, but to others business could not be any better. “I was working before at this store and hated my boss, but then it went bankrupt so I changed positions. Now I get many phone calls a day; business is great!”, says Jose Mendez, who works at the corner of Main St. and Elm holding up going out of business signs for local stores. Jose adds “Sometimes it’s hard to find the Q stencil at the hardware store. I guess they weren’t prepared for needing so many stencils for the word ‘liquidation’. Other than that I can’t complain. Jose’s town isn’t the only one seeing job growth in the sign holding industry, cities all across the nation are reporting similar job opportunities. In a related story, lawn chairs, staple guns and long wooden posts are selling out in record numbers…

Oops: Obama’s Teleprompter Breaks Mid-Speech

The president has been criticized for relying too heavily on his teleprompter for routine remarks and the device has become jokingly known as “TOTUS.”

What is Barack Obama’s next move? I surely do not envy the President of this great nation no matter who it is. The world as a whole seems to be on tenterhooks regarding the game of chess evolving right now in Iran, which is understandable. But again, President Obama is acting cool as a cucumber; perhaps too cool. We are not Switzerland, we take sides. It could be that the President is calculating what side of history he wants to fall on. Nevertheless, I think the niceties need to cease. As I have mentioned before and will probably mention many times in the future: President Obama does not like to disappoint people and he is not used to being criticized. He is a complete 180 from President Bush. Personally I think W had a big set of brass ones, for good or for bad. But I do believe deep down in the hearts of many Iranians, they are hoping for less diplomatic posturing and more substance while their regime runs roughshod over them.

When a Tweet Becomes a Roar

If a bird tweets in Iran, does anybody hear them? You bet your Mahmud-grey business suit they do. While I am a general fan of social networking sites, I never could understand the hullabaloo for Twitter, the micro blogging website that is, well… a mix of an SMS message and a blog. Through shopping over the weekend, I happened to notice most of the stores I visit, where an on-the-wall TV is present, CNN is on. I certainly don’t attribute this to CNN’s ratings, because frankly they stink, but rather the fact that CNN is sort of the de facto cable news station, much like to “Xerox” something or using “Rollerblades” vs in-line skates. CNN’s coverage used a heavy amount of news information coming from Twitter. Maybe it’s just me, but their use of it seemed too phony and rehearsed, as if they were trying too hard to come across as hip. Despite this, I took one more dive into the nether with Twitter. This time, I got it. Upon searching for Tehran, I saw a deluge of “tweets” giving support and enticing others to take certain actions: change your time to 3:30 am to mess with the Iranian Cyber Police so they get confused or spread around a certain URL of a protester being shot. This in turn, created a micro-society of protesters and advocates. I had really never seen anything like this using such a simple application. I am impressed.
While I am by no means a Twitter expert here is what I have learned:

What do they think this is, STARTREK! How do they (environmentalists) think energy can be produced? Maybe they think we shouldn’t produce energy, but I’d like to see them get to their protests, and fight for their ’causes’ without it?

Green Energy Plan Fuel Discontent Among Environmentalists
Many local activists say the rush to renewables, backed by Obama, risks trading one power problem for another

A key part of President Obama’s energy plan — replacing fossil fuels with green alternatives — is facing increasing opposition from an unlikely source: environmentalists.

Some environmentalists, who have successfully fought a wind farm on the border of Oregon and Washington, are trying to block a massive solar plant in the Mojave desert. And now an Oregon county is considering a ban on wind power in the foothills of the blue mountains.

“We all want to be as green as we can be. But at what cost?” Richard Jolly of the Blue Mountain Alliance. “To take everything from us? This valley could be surrounded by them.”

Jolly says 400-foot wind turbines are a bird-killing eyesore. The developer argues the danger to birds is exaggerated but admits every big energy project has its downside.

“If we hold out for the perfect environmental silver bullet, if you will, it will always be 15 years down the road,” he said. “We have to make incremental progress.”

For decades, environmental groups have talked about “big oil,” painting the petroleum industry as greedy and destructive. Now similar language is being applied to renewables. Instead of eco-friendly green power, increasingly it’s “big wind” and “big solar.”

Large environmental groups, such as the Natural Resources Defense Council, bristle at the idea of dissension in the ranks.

“We are working very aggressively to make a planning process happen with utilities, with industry, with local groups all at the table,” said Rick Duke, director of the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Center for Market Innovation.

Obama has set a goal of getting 25 percent of the nation’s power from renewable sources by 2025. The White House contends that will create millions of jobs and has the support of business and environmental leaders.

But many local activists say we need to slow this rush to renewables or risk trading one power problem for another.

Obama Gets His first Call

I have a strong feeling that for the next four years I will be making many comparisons between how Bush and Obama were/are received on the world stage. It should be no secret that I supported Bush; i.e. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I could go on and on about Bush made the unpopular choices and suffered politically for it, but this comment I found regarding the below link says it all.

Let’s take this down to a junior high level, shall we? Obama is the cool kid. everyone wants to be the cool kid’s friend and believe whatever the cool kid’s wants them to do. But would you really jump off the bridge because the cool kid said so? Isn’t that the lesson about peer pressure we all heard as kids?

Sounds like right leaning folks can resist temptation and peer pressure better. To question authority is not stupid, it’s smart. It’s thinking before doing. Obama cares more about being the cool kid in the world than doing what’s right by his own people. And he just proved this case at the g-20 summit.
